"Fiumefreddo di Sicila gode di un prezioso angolo di mondo, un frammento di suolo "parlante", che racconterà a tutti coloro che passeranno da lí che anche una semplice mattonella, se si vuole, può dire qualcosa: perché fermandosi in quella piazza, con l'Etna sullo sfondo, ciascun passante un bacio lo potrà ricordare. Lo potrà dare o ricevere. Lo potrà consacrare nella sua memoria..e, perché no, lo potrà anche guardare. Gli basterà puntare lo sguardo a terra! La rappresentazione grafica immortala quell'attimo prima di un bacio vero: quel momento in cui gli innamorati, a pochi centimetri l'uno dall'altra, si proiettano tra respiri e sguardi a un futuro ricco di promesse e speranze.

Il fuori scala rappresentato su un'apposita stele, in acciaio corten per garantirne un carattere senza tempo, posta in un angolo della piazza, aiuta a comprendere il disegno raffigurato sulla pavimentazione che, altrimenti, non sarebbe immediatamente percepibile al passante che vi cammina sopra, per via della sua estensione. Non è neppure casuale la posizione della stele: una perfetta simmetria con il vulcano Etna che le è alle spalle, movente dello slogan "un bacio ai piedi dell'Etna" in essa inciso. Tutte le assialità di questo progetto sono state peraltro appositamente studiate per rendere omaggio al paese di Fiumefreddo, geograficamente ai piedi del vulcano e baciato da una posizione privilegiata rispetto agli altri paesi dell'hinterland; nonché per completare questo quadro visivo fatto di realtà e rappresentazione, di passato e presente, di natura e artificio. Una statuetta fronte stele consente, infine, di poggiare lo strumento fotografico e rendersi protagonisti di questo incanto creativo di cui solo chi vi fa visita,  può fregiarsi. Per cogliere appieno il racconto della piazza Francesco Hayez, dunque, è necessario recarsi sul posto, respirarne gli odori e fare uno scatto: sarà il via di una comunicazione da fuori a dentro che restituirà il suo significato solo allontanandosi e innalzandosi verso l'alto..quasi a voler indicare che la distanza nello spazio, come nel tempo, rende tutto più chiaro. E di questa stessa messa a fuoco dovranno avvalersi anche i protagonisti di questa immagine che, come tutti coloro che andranno lì a baciarsi, travolti da un futuro incalzante, non potranno che voltarsi indietro e rivivere quel momento, per sempre, nella loro memoria!"
