The campus of b<>com in Rennes, France is a materialisation of the brand itself as well as of innovation and dynamics. The vision of uniting the talents of multiple disciplines within the field of IT has now come about at the modern complex. The creation of this campus is part of a vision: a shared space for multidisciplinary talents and a special work organization. Is the spatial planning capable of stimulating innovative work? The building indeed reflects the mission of b<>com: to develop and to create software tools, innovative products and services for the market. The campus is a functional work tool in which architecture has its place. Inside, basic materials such as concrete and metal are reminiscent of a “factory” setting, echoing the work of artisans and digital research teams. The interior provides spaces for creative meetings as well as silent corners for focussed work. On the exterior, use of mirrored façades and windows have turned this building into a challenge. “Our work is expressed by a singular façade concept, characterised by both a functional system of solar protection and changing perceptions depending on the viewing angle and seasonal variations”, explains the architect Jean-Pierre Meignan. The exterior façade featuring ALUCOBOND® gives us some indication of the work going on in the interior: multifaceted innovation and research in an open and modern working environment.
