MERCAN

The design project of the restaurant "MERCAN"​.​ "Mercan"​ means "coral"​ in translation from Turkish.
The restauraunt specializes in seafood dishes.
In interior I wanted to avoid direct quotes of sea images and usage of standard methods for design of seafood restaurants. Motives from nature were made so abstract that they can be only vaguely discerned.
I wanted to create contemporary space that will be holistic in its core, various in its unity and without linking to place and time.
Mezzanine was built to increase useful area of the restaurant
The interior was constructed with contrast combinations of colors. Among materials there are plastic, metal and glass.
Dominant of interior is chains made curtain zoning the space. Gouache painted monotype was used as pattern for curtain. I've seen a stylized image of corals in it. The bar was devised by project's author.
The central element of lounge area is a divider with streamlined forms which has a zoning function and has a big importance for color decision of interior. Cranberry-colored sofas were added in contrast with divider's color.
