The concept of a house with a cantilevered porch house is based on two simple, basic principles:, people and their lifestyles, and landscape, which greatly enhances people’s enjoyment of their abode.

The design of this house enables people to make full use of all the available plot area and at the same time to enjoy the stunning, almost 360 degree panoramic landscape with mid to long distance views. The cantilever provides shade from the sun without interrupting the view of one of the most attractive landscapes to be found in the municipality of Mazarrón.

The day areas are divided by glass walls, creating a light, spacious flow, uniting the living-dining-kitchen areas with the outside terrace; there is a perfect harmony between the visual and material experience, and the ease of moving around within the space; a sliding glass panel between the interior and exterior spaces can be closed to offer protection when the weather is inclement.

In a Mediterranean climate people spend half the year enjoying the outdoor spaces. The porch, which has been meticulously thought out, is a key element in this project. It fulfills two main functions: on the one hand, to create shade on the outside with the purpose of preventing sunlight from impacting on the glass panels that give continuity between the indoor and outdoor spaces in summer and, on the other, to allow the winter sunsets to be viewed through the lower half of these glass panels heating the space protected by them.

The porch also represents a spatial transition from the cover of what has been conceived as the single inside living space of the house, to the outside, so that the swimming pool, with its matching pavement surrounds, also becomes an extension of a unified living space covering the whole plot.
