malandrino caffé bar | pura arquitectura
San Sebastián / Spain / 2016
Four years after opening their first Malandrino bar in San Sebastian, its owners decided to open a new one in the city. A new project created with the aim of keeping the main essence of the bar: creating a young, warm and welcoming atmosphere to enjoy their delicious and authentic Italian specialties.
Our proposal seeks to open the bar to the street inviting to enter. In a city like San Sebastian with a mild but a rainy climate, we decided to create a covered terrace as a porch with a wooden pergola where climbing vines enhance the feeling of an outdoor garden.
Once inside the architecture seeks matching the business philosophy: tradition and raw materials. To give life and personality to the place we play combining 3 traditional noble materials shown stripped: iron, brickwork and pine wood. Natural weldings and raw structures in the search for a constructive sincerity that moves away from unnecessary ornaments and seeks the essential with few resources but without giving up a modern, young, warm and natural image.
The hanging lamps from the dining area at the background have been modified with a self-made system. With pulleys and vinegar bottles filled with sand they can easily modify their height and convert the dining area into a dance floor.
