Site

The flat is located at the upper floor of an early 1950’s residential building in central Genoa. Wide open views, direct links to transports and a 200 sqm roof terrace make of this premise a premium location.

Task

Two months for acquisition, design, planning permissions and tender phases, three months for site and handover phases.

Concept

The amazing view over Genoa and the wide roof-terrace suggested aca the chance to see the apartment as a submarine. 

The fully equipped indoor space is divided into defined areas while functional paths are studied to minimize flows and distances.

The terrace-deck, ‘commanded’ from a studio-control room, is then conceived as the place for discovery and leisure. 

Design

A wide unobstruded living-dining area is defined around two south facing openings, while bed and rest rooms will enjoy darker and quieter north facing spaces. 

The connection between in and outdoor is made possible through an elicoidal oak timber staircase that before landing on the terrace access the studio’s roof-level volume. 

Materials

Repaired and savaged oak flooring match the stair while a steel structure gives stiffness.

White rendered walls, new HVAC system, 

wireless home automation are amongst the main feaures of the completed apartment
