New Synagogue in Warsaw | Ewa Mroczek-Chojecka
Warsaw / Poland / 2015
New Synagogue in Warsaw is a combination of traditional Jewish culture with modern design, it is an enclave of peace in the center of the city.
The complex is placed on the green square, between the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and Willy Brandt’s Square. Thus, the buildings complete the closed eco-system suspended on the existing axis.
The New Synagogue consists of three buildings, designed with the uniform expression and polish, connected via external corridors on the inner side of the wall. All the buildings are facing the inner-side of the square - the windows and glazing appear only on internal facades, increasing the feeling of intimacy.
The Synagogue is covered by nine 2-curved domes that dominate both outside and inside the building. The roof structure is supported on a centrally placed bimah, which is the main component of the minimalist interiors of the Synagogue.
