In Gdańsk Old Town, in the heart of the up-and-coming Granary Island, stylish interiors of the new PURO Gdańsk await all design lovers.

The famous Granary Island is an area in the heart of the city, which was completely destroyed in World War II. It is only now that Granary Island is being regenerated into a vibrant sought after location in Gdańsk, which is an important city of tourism and business in Poland. PURO Hotel is the first new investment on Granary Island, which is aimed to become the new commercial and cultural hub of the city within the next few years.

PURO Hotel Gdańsk is the fourth property of the group, which is also present in other major Polish cities - Cracow, Wrocław and Poznań and is quickly establishing itself as a hospitality brand to watch, already creating an exciting buzz around their hotels. PURO Hotels are innovative in their mix of design led interiors, friendly technology (such as check-in kiosks or tablet-controlled rooms) as well as carefully curated art.

As all PURO Hotels, also PURO Gdańsk is more than just a place to stay – it is a hub for experience and connection to the City, putting its guest at the centre of what is happening, be it culture, art and events and strive to be a part of the their unique adventure.

London based interior design practice DeSallesFlint has created a design which reflects the Granary Island’s history as the guiding light for the interior of the hotel. The creative influences are taken from Granary Island’s old grain warehouses as well as the influence of Gdańsk’s shipyards, which in past days had been the lifeblood of Gdańsk’s economic survival.

DeSallesFlint do not believe in theming a hotel, they like to guide the guest to discover if they so wish. The project delivers a fantastically stylish, modern and very comfortable hotel and If the guest has an inquisitive mind and a desire to delve deeper, there is a lot to really enjoy. The job was to create a hotel, which belonged to the city, attracting local customers as well as the independent, discerning and international travellers.

In their selection of materials and colours, DeSallesFlint’s thinking was all about the granary warehouses in their heyday: Cranes, pulley’s ropes, sacks of grains, hence ideas for the light fittings in the Atrium and the timber and steel metal, which are also directly influenced from the Gdańsk shipyards. Natural fibres such as cotton, wool, linen and leathers make up the many textures and textiles in the hotel. This is also visible in the choice of furniture, which includes pieces by brands such as Moroso or Vitra, as well as Carl Hansen&Son, &Tradition or Bent Hansen. The colour palate for this project is a true reflexion of the city and how the designers really used their senses to absorb Gdańsk into the interior of the hotel.

The art pieces are very carefully considered. A creative collaboration between DeSallesFlint and London-based curators from Double Decker resulted in a curated collection of artworks and commissions by Polish award winning artists and designers, such as Maria Jeglińska or Kacper Kowalski. Each of them is integrally linked to Gdansk and has captured the city’s spirit and resilience in their work.

PURO Gdańsk also features a new spot on Gdańsk culinary map – the INK restaurant and bar. Its quirky visual identity based on sailorman tattoos is another nod to the city’s past. Guest can enjoy a menu of Mediterranean-inspired dishes and a selection of maritime cocktails.

PURO Hotels is already working on two new projects. First, the extension of PURO Gdańsk – two townhouses will be added to the existing structure with interiors that will carry on the vision described above with a few interesting additions. Secondly, a new hotel project in the heart of Warsaw – PURO Warszawa. The flagship property in Poland’s capital will be designed by awards winning JEMS Architects, with interiors by DeSallesFlint.
