Across 60 acres of white beaches and coconut trees in the Dominican Republic, we were requested to design a resort for young surfers. Clusters of 4 bungalows are places around a communal pool and bar between winding trails and tropical plants. The bungalows are covered in locally sourced wood inside and out, the wooden constructions placed on top of sloped straw roofs. Big openings connect the interior of the bungalows with shallow pools and private balconies. The ground floor, and right above it a gallery overlooking the double space, are designed in clean modern lines.
All of these elements are the very beginning of the design process. We will work with more locally sourced materials, bringing the breathtaking colorfulness of the local architecture, and think about the ultimate vacation in this exotic destination.
