Downton Primary School is a 210 place 1 form of entry primary school set in the rural village of Downton, Wiltshire. The main school building is a Grade 2 listed Victorian building dating from 1895.
The key design driver for the project was to create a generous, modern and welcoming school entrance alongside the historic village school building.
The entrance is conceived as a pavilion set within the limited but precious school garden. Inspired by the much loved school garden and allotment and with references to natural building materials the principal elevation was conceived as part of the garden and features a ‘living wall’ of climbers.
The scheme was completed in July 2012.
