Jauja restaurant | Rubio & Ros Design

At Paseo de La Alameda, in the heart of Valencia, the restaurant Jauja opens its kitchen. By day, the Valencian tradition of rice; at night, the New York Heritage of Club Sandwich. On one side, culture and tradition, on the other, a fresh and young concept for Valencian nights.

From this duality Rubio and Ros generate the pretext to creat an eclectice space, combining the idea of ​​an inherited past with a close present. Representative elements of Casa Balaguer was thus recovered. There are objects that the future this time can not ignored, as the window of a fabulous wine cellar, the old wooden and marble table or the green flashes which generate the old blown glass vases.

The tables were “domesticated”, their legs lacquered in black and the tops made in wood and Formica. The existing bar was reused giving it a greater role.

The enclosure of lattice white clay stand out amoung the many textures.This lattice, glazed in green in specific places acts as a screen between the fire area and living room. We speak of a Mediterranean element par excellence, with traditionaly a purely architectural role but, however, does not neglect its decorative appearance. This surface can not only filter the light and looks but also attenuate the visual weight of the kitchen and bar area.

Walls of natural raffia and wallpaper with motives of palms, wicker, handmade brass and wood lamps (produced and designed by Rubio and Ros expressly for the project), wallcovering board marine plywood ... Those are the elements that make up this play of light, natural and calm, where inhabit exotic birds designed by Mut Design. Light, color, texture and pattern; a light, confortable and friendly atmosphere, which refers to the idea of ​​an ideal location or paradise of plenty, a place called “Jauja”.

Bearing that in mind, Mut Design has designed the corporate image of this rice specialized restaurant, a simple, fresh image taking vegetation and birds as main motifs and seeking this way to recreate the paradise evoked by Jauja, but with hints of unmistakable Mediterranean flavour.

En el Paseo de La Alameda, en pleno centro de Valencia, el restaurante Jauja abre su cocina; de día, a la tradición valenciana de los arroces; de noche, a la herencia neoyorkina del Sandwich Club. De un lado, cultura y tradición, de otro, un concepto fresco y joven para las noches valencianas.

De esa dualidad nace para Rubio and Ros el pretexto de generar un espacio mestizo, combinando la idea de un pasado heredado con un presente cercano. Se recuperan así elementos representativos del antiguo restaurante Casa Balaguer. Hay objetos que el futuro esta vez no puede ignorar, como la vitrina de una fabulosa bodega de vinos, la vieja mesa de madera y mármol, o los verdes destellos que generan las antiguas vasijas de vidrio soplado.

La conquista de este espacio pasa por integrar algunas piezas de mobiliario presentes en el lugar. Se domesticaron las mesas, lacando sus pies en negro y canteando los tableros con madera, y se reutilizó la barra existente otorgándole un mayor protagonismo.

Entre las múltiples texturas, destaca el cerramiento de celosía de arcilla blanca, vitrificada en verde en lugares puntuales y que actúa como tamiz entre la zona de fuegos y la sala. Hablamos de un elemento mediterráneo por excelencia, con un papel puramente arquitectónico en la tradición que, sin embargo, no descuida su aspecto más decorativo. Esta superficie permite no sólo filtrar la luz y las miradas sino también atenuar el peso visual del plano que marca con su recorrido la zona de pasaplatos y de barra.

Paredes de rafia natural y papel con motivos de palmeras, mimbre, lámparas handmade de latón y madera (producidas ex profeso para el proyecto), revestimiento de paredes de tablero contrachapado marino… Son las piezas que conforman este juego de luz, natural y sosegado, en el que habitan las aves exóticas diseñadas por Mut Design. Luz, color, textura y trama; un ambiente lumínico, complaciente y acogedor, que nos remite a la idea de un lugar ideal o paradisíaco donde reina la abundancia, un lugar llamado Jauja.

Teniendo todo esto en cuenta, Mut Design ha diseñado la imagen corporativa de este restaurante especializado en arroces. Una imagen simple y fresca que coge como leimotiv la vegetación y los pájaros que evocan el paraíso de “Jauja” pero con un inolvidable sabor mediterráneo.
