Residense at Promiri - Pelion | Constantine Adamos

Kontova’s residence is located in central square of Promiri’s settlement in South Pilion’s municipality.
It is about a residence with total area 82.37m2, a challenge for a new area experience which is point by point enriched with meretricious smart movements taking advantage of the space. In the binding canvas of traditional architecture and in demand for maximum area exploitation, functionality and aesthetics, the building was completely harmonized with the wider environment, bioclimatic and traditional settlement architecture.
In composition level, many problems were treated. The irregular shape of site and its relation to the points of interest, the orientation, the intense altitude differences, the limited plot area, user’s demands and restrictive legislation which rules traditional residences of Pilion, they highlighted the work in challenge which was completed with total success.
The living room is placed in the south side of the building in order to have sight to the square and the artificially created ‘’balcony’’. The altitude differences in order to be normalized, a basement was constructed where its plate, which is placed in an altitude ±0.00 (as to the building), is converted to a house balcony. The bedroom is in the north part, slightly under the level ±0.00 and surrounded from other buildings, protected from weather conditions and indiscreet eyes.
Using the most modern insulation technology, even if we are in January, it’s not considered as necessary the energy consumption for its heating or cooling , particularly in bedroom. With the help of these techniques, the building becomes extremely economical in its function and by extension bioclimatic.
Traditional architecture borrows modern life symbolisms and the importance of timeless existence, leaving to the owners a sweet taste and the desire to spend more time in it.
