STUDENT HOUSING | DAP studio
Milan / Italy / 2014
The project area is located in Milan, next to many universities and academies.
The client requested to concentrate in a new residential building 60 small units that could be easily combined together in order to have larger apartments.
Our choice was to avoid the creation of a single volume and to focus on open spaces, on their quality and urban value.
The project was conceived as an aggregation of volumes that create a urban fabric and enclose a new landscape, intimate and protected for the residents, where the places of sociality merge with the spaces of transit: the courtyard is the heart of a connecting system that goes through the levels up to the rooftop.
The design of the facades, compact toward the city and porous towards the courtyard, emphasizes the internal / external dialectic of the project.
The big vertical empty space between the volumes is a sort of entrance portal from the street that opens the view to the interior landscape.
The volumes are distributed by two stairwells and distribution galleries filtered by brise-soleil
At the fourth floor we find a new public "ground", with gardens and green areas open to the residents, and apartments conceived as small urban villas with private gardens.
