Faro Capo Spartivento

Capo Spartivento Lighthouse was built in 1856 by the Italian Navy.
During the last war it was machine-gunned by American planes and, later on, it functioned as the Lighthouse guardian residence until the late 80s. It has lit the way of seamen for over 150 years, slicing the darkness like a sword with its welcoming beam of light; it has now become a luxury guesthouse without losing its primary function. The Lighthouse is open all the year round, and it is an amazing location both in sunny summer and in winter thanks to its charming stormy weather.

Location
The property is located 50 km from Elmas Airport and the City of Cagliari, on a promontory called Capo Spartivento, in the area of Chia. This is the most southern tip of the Island: a completely wild and unpolluted area, with no other structures around, covered with Mediterranean bushes, and surrounded by fine, heavenly white sandy beaches. A secondary dirt road leads to the Lighthouse on top of the cliff above the sea.

Exterior
At the back of the building there is a 3000 sq. meters garden with a huge centuries-old olive tree and a big lawn where you can sit on white sofas in front of a 12 meters fireplace and a barbecue area. In the middle of the garden, there are eight glass gazebos (16 sq meters each) and an open air sheltered area with tables where it is possible to have lunch while enjoying the panoramic view of the sea and the hills far beyond or to have dinner under the flickering light of the Lighthouse lantern. In the front of the building there is a large wooden platform, looking out the cliff above the astonishing view of the sea. In the middle of the platform, there is an infinity pool (14m long, 6m wide and 1,3m deep), equipped with two Jacuzzi water jets. Fine ancient Turkish carts have been turned into beds to sunbathe on. Elegant white leather sofas with 4 white sunshades create a perfect area to have Breakfast, afternoon Tea, or to enjoy an aperitif in front of the sea admiring the sunset when the lantern is on and the goats invade the surrounding promontory.

Interior
Ground Floor: the structure is about 600 square meters. Through the imposing arched glass front door, it is possible to admire the sea. On the upper part of the arch, an old ornament with the initials in capital letters of King Vittorio Emanuele is still visible. The hall is large and elegant (120 sq m) with red, Murano crystal chandeliers. Five arches in the ceiling mark the border between five different areas once separated by walls, now replaced by monumental iron trusses, similar to the ones used in ore mines. Here there are four Luigi XVI-style big settees, a fireplace, an ancient mirror and a big ancient, table and four round glass tables for four. From the center of the wooden floor hall, a cast iron spiral staircase leads to the old underground cistern (water supply from a well), which is now functioning as a wine cellar. A stone path leads to the restrooms, a business area, a professional kitchen, and a small office. In the bathroom on the ground floor, the wash basin is held up by an ancient mortar found in the Mongolian countryside. The business area is equipped with a PC, internet access, fax, telephone, and hi-fi stereomusic System.
First Floor: a stone spiral staircase leads to the first floor. Here you can find a reading room with a small fireplace, a sofa and a big old chest used as a bookshelf and four smaller en-suite rooms (35sq. m each) with wooden floor two which with sea view. They are furnished in a modern bright white style and round suspended beds. Two white glass walls separate the roomto thewardrobe and the bathroom.
Two of the suites have a view of the hill at the back of the Lighthouse. They composed of three separate rooms: a drawing room in Provencal style with a sofa and TV, a bedroom with a canopy bed and a bathroom.

On the second floor, there is the terrace (250 square meters), where the beacon is located. The door to the beacon is on the third floor but access is prohibited by the Navy to which it still belongs. The terrace is equipped with four big sofa beds to sunbathe or lie down on to look at the sky at night. A telescope is available for a closer look at the stars and the moon.
From the terrace it is possible to enjoy a breath-taking 360-degree view of the surrounding area. Two additional mini-flats outside the main block of the Lighthouse are also part of the propriety. They are on two floors, 50 square meters each, and have a sitting room on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor. A glass roof allows admiring the beautiful starry sky at night. These buildings, now restored, once housed the tanks for the gas used to fuel the beacon of the Lighthouse.
Total number of beds: 12. All the rooms are equipped with king-size bed, a bathroom, big mirrors, a mini bar, a Satellite LCD TV, a DVD player, air conditioning, a safe, Internet connection, and 3 sets of bed linen and towels.

Eco sustainability
Capospartivento Lighthouse is equipped with a solar panel system which uses solar power to heat the water. Water is supplied by tankers and kept in the underground INOX cistern (40,000 liters available per day). However, the water is not drinkable. The structure is equipped with phyto-purification system for the drainage water, which recycles the used water to irrigate the gardens.

Natural Attractions and Leisure Activities
The white sandy beaches of Cala Cipolla and Su Giudeu, are easily reachable within walking distance. The ruins of the former semaphore tower, once a weather station, on the hill where the Lighthouse stands. From there you can enjoy an astonishing panoramic view of the coast. The ruins of the former harbor, part of the Lighthouse property, dating back to World War I, and to the surrounding small inlets with small sandy or pebbled beaches, within an easy walking distance. Crystal clear waters for Snorkeling or scuba diving activities. Mountain biking along the coast to reach the beautiful beach of Tuerredda. Horseback riding along the beach of Chia and its lagoon, home of the pink flamingos. Cross-country excursions to different sites: the archaeological ruins in the interior of the island, the old abandoned mines of Piscinas, the beaches around Capo Teulada and all around the island; Boat or sail trips to the beaches of Capo Teulada, Capo Malfatano and Cala Zafferano (only reachable by boat); Kite surfing on the beach of Chia; Golf at “Is MolasGolf Club” (10minutes by car).

Il faro di Capo Spartivento fu costruito nel 1856 dalla Marina Militare Italiana, mitragliato dagli aerei americani durante l’ultima guerra, ospitò fino agli anni 80 la famiglia dei faristi. La struttura diviene oggi una luxury guesthouse senza però perdere la sua originale natura di faro, con la sua affascinante lanterna che al crepuscolo da più di 150 anni si accende e con il suo fascio di luce rotante, come una spada, taglia l’oscurità per illuminare il cammino ai naviganti. Aperto tutto l’anno, diventando d’inverno scenario suggestivo ricco di tempeste e temporali memorabili, Il Faro di Capospartivento è stato premiato come esempio di recupero di architettura militare dai vertici della Marina Militare Italiana ed è l'unico Faro d'Italia restaurato ed aperto alla ricettività pubblica.

Localizzazione
La struttura, situata a 50 KM dall’aeroporto di Elmas e dalla città di Cagliari, sorge sul promontorio di Capo-Spartivento, località Chia, punta all’estremo sud dell’isola, in un area ancor oggi completamente selvaggia e incontaminata, priva di costruzioni, ricoperta dalla caratteristica macchia mediterranea, circondata da spiagge paradisiache di finissima sabbia bianca. Il faro, costruito su una scogliera a picco sul mare, è raggiungibile attraverso una strada sterrata, chiusa al pubblico.

Esterni
Nel retro un giardino di 3000 mq con un enorme ulivo secolare e un grande prato, un camino di 12 metri di lunghezza con antistante salotto, una zona barbecue. Nella area centrale, sopraelevata, sono posizionati 8 gazebo in cristallo di 16 mq cadauno con vista panoramica, in cui è possibile pranzare godendo della vista del mare e della collina, o cenare la sera illuminati dal fascio di luce rotante del faro. Sul fronte una pedana in teak di 200 mq si affaccia sulla scogliera a picco sul mare. Al centro della pedana è inserita la piscina a sfioro di 14 x 6 m, profonda 1,30 m, con due idromassaggio Jacuzzi. Antichi fondi di carro turchi sono stati adibiti a tavoli per le colazioni, un elegante salotto in pelle bianca con 4 ombrelloni consente di godere di una colazione con vista sul mare infinito o di aperitivi al tramonto quando la lanterna si accende mentre le capre si adagiano nel punto piu’ riparato del promontorio.

Interni
La struttura si estende su una superficie di 600 mq. La porta d’accesso, in cristallo trasparente che consente di vedere il mare, ha conservato nell’arco il fregio in ferro con le iniziali del Re Vittorio Emanuele. All’interno, al piano terra, un ampio salone di 120 mq. con lampadari rossi in cristallo di Murano. Le 5 volte del soffitto segnano il confine fra 5 ambienti separati un tempo da pareti oggi sostituite da monumentali travi in ferro, che ricordano quelle un tempo usate nelle miniere. Gli ambienti sul fondo della sala ospitano dei salotti: con quattro grandi divani in pelle bianca stile Luigi XIV, un antico specchio a parete, un grande camino. Gli ambienti centrali invece fungono da sala da pranzo con su un lato un enorme antico tavolo conviviale a 6 posti e sull’altro un tavolo rettangolare in cristallo da 10 posti, con sedie in pelle bianca stile luigi XIV per situazioni più raccolte. Nello spazio antistante l’ingresso, una scala a chiocciola in ghisa della Neri, conduce alla vecchia cisterna sotterranea oggi adibita a cantina. Ancora al piano terra 2 bagni, con i lavabo sostenuti da un antico mortaio ritrovato nelle campagne della Mongolia.

Sempre al piano terra un ufficio, postazione internet, telefono, impianto stereo Bose con sistema di filo diffusione in tutta la struttura; una cucina industriale con dispensa, bagni e spogliatoi per il personale; una scala a chiocciola in pietra conduce al primo piano. Qui si trovano: una sala da the con caminetto e un enorme antico baule che funge da libreria. Sei junior suite, di 35 mq l’una , due con vista mare arredate in stile moderno total white con letti tondi sospesi. Due vetrate di cristallo sulle pareti fondo stanza chiudono rispettivamente il bagno e un enorme armadio a parete. Le due suites fronte collina sono suddivise in due ambienti, zona giorno con divano e LCD e zona notte una con letto in stile provenzale l’una e con letto a baldacchino in ferro battuto l’altra. Proseguendo lungo la scala a chiocciola si arriva al secondo piano in cui si trova l’accesso ad una terrazza di 250 mq su cui sorge la lanterna. La terrazza è dotata di 4 enormi letti a baldacchino per prendere il sole o guardare le stelle la notte, da qui si gode di una vista a 360 gradi su un paesaggio completamente incontaminato e selvaggio. Al terzo piano sorge la lanterna a cui non è consentito l’accesso trattandosi di proprietà della Marina Militare. Il Faro dispone di altri due mini appartamenti separati dal corpo centrale : costruiti su due piani di 50 mq dotati di una zona giorno salotto al piano terra e zona notte al primo piano. Una vetrata in cristallo sul tetto consente la notte di ammirare il cielo stellato. Le costruzioni un tempo fungevano da cisterne per il gas acetilene che alimentava la lanterna. Posti letto totali 13. Tutte le camere sono dotate di letto matrimoniale, bagno, specchi a figura intera, frigobar, LCD , aria condizionata, cassaforte, ricambi biancheria e asciugamani, accappatoi.

Ecosostenibilità
La struttura faro di Capo Spartivento è dotata di un sistema di pannelli che utilizzano l’energia solare per il riscaldamento dell’acqua. L’acqua viene portata nella struttura con autobotti e raccolta nella cisterna sotterranea (litri disponibili 40000 per consumo medio giornaliero a pieno regime di 4000 litri) L’acqua non è potabile. La struttura è dotata di un sistema di fito-depurazione delle acque reflue, che possono in tal modo essere riutilizzate per l’irrigazione del giardino.

Attrazioni e attività
Raggiungibili a piedi le spiagge di Cala Cipolla e Su Giudeu. Passeggiata verso il rudere ex stazione semaforica ,che un tempo fungeva da stazione di rilevamento meteorologico, che sorge sulla collina antistante il Faro,punto da cui si gode del più ampio panorama sulla costa Passeggiata verso il rudere dell’ex molo del faro, risalente alla prima guerra mondiale, e verso piccole calette di roccia o sabbia. Snorkeling e immersioni nei meravigliosi fondali marini antistanti il Faro. Possibilità di realizzare escursioni in mountain bike lungo la costa fino alla spiaggia di Tuerredda. Possibilità di realizzare escursioni a cavallo lungo la spiaggia di Chia e la laguna, habitat dei caratteristici fenicotteri rosa. Possibilità di realizzare escursioni in Jeep verso numerosissime mete: dai siti archeologici dell’interno dell’isola, alle zone minerarie di Piscinas, alle spiagge intorno a capo Teulada e in tutta l’isola. Escursioni in gommone o in barca verso le spiagge non raggiungibili via terra di Capo Teulada , Cala zafferano, Capo Malfatano. Windsurf, Surf, Kitesurf presso la spiaggia di Chia. Campo da golf in località Is Molas , Pula (20 minuti in auto).
