The Stadttheater of Solothurn has emerged from an early 17th century building complex. A key feature of the new design is the opening up of the ground floor onto the two small streets that flank the building. A sculpture within the space that incorporates the lobby welcomes the audience – becoming a stage itself. At the core of the project is the theatre's auditorium, in which baroque paintings have been discovered. The task specified the inclusion of the primary structure and form of the existing galleries. The portal and the seating, as well as the lighting and the design of the rear wall elements needed to be customized for this remarkable old theatre and define the atmosphere.
