Grupo Sud is the conversion of an old perfume factory into an open work space for a holding of 4 companies that are fully integrated in the marketing, production, design and communication areas. The building is located in the city of Santiago, in the "Italia" neighborhood that encompasses design, art and decoration luxury stores.

The site, 20 meters wide by 75 meters deep, comprised a series of warehouses constructed at different points in time that had been expanded and subdivided throughout that same time. The project entailed the restoration of the sequence of spaces and their reorganization so as to serve the needs of the companies, mainly offices for a work force of about a hundred people.

There was a very limited budget and a tight schedule of only five months for the project’s execution. Decisions had to be careful and strategic. In order to achieve this, two main actions were proposed: to remove what was useless and to reuse what existed. Removing and reusing the elements of subdivision restored the communication between the different warehouses and resulted in more fluid and brighter spaces: the ideal environment for an integrated and team work approach.

The intervention aimed to reveal and contrast the old and the new. Longstanding thick walls, textures and high ceilings are opposed to the new lighter and transparent elements, minimally scaled to satisfy the user’s needs. The color palette is neutral to maintain the quietness and to highlight the ample spaces. The white, with different levels of shine, was used as a foundation to unify and revalue the spaces through light. The floors were kept gray while some accents were incorporated on walls through the use of color or by revealing the brick layer. The new divisions were made of glass, seeking to dilute boundaries and to contrast these new elements of straight and defined edges to the imprecisions of the old. The new climate and electricity control panels were highlighted in galvanized metal, moving in an orderly fashion through the neutrality of the white background. Both the furniture and the lamps were designed by 57STUDIO following the same premise of identity and contrast over a recycled space as a backdrop.

Grupo Sud es la reconversión de una antigua fábrica de perfumes en un espacio de trabajo abierto para un holding de 4 empresas, las cuales se dedican integralmente al marketing, producción, diseño y comunicación. El edificio se encuentra ubicado en un barrio de la comuna de Providencia llamado "Barrio Italia", sector que reúne exclusivas tiendas relacionadas al diseño, el arte y la decoración.

El terreno, con 20 mts de ancho entre medianeros y 75 mts de profundidad, se componía de una secuencia de galpones construidos en distintas épocas, y que recibieron una serie de adiciones y subdivisiones a lo largo del tiempo. El proyecto consistió en recuperar esta secuencia de espacios y reorganizarla según las necesidades de las empresas, que consistían fundamentalmente en oficinas de trabajo para una carga cercana al centenar de personas.

Se disponía de un presupuesto muy limitado y de un plazo de sólo 5 meses para realizar el proyecto y su ejecución, por lo cual las decisiones debieron ser cuidadosamente estratégicas. Para lograrlo, se propusieron dos acciones principales: retirar lo inservible y reutilizar lo existente. El hecho de retirar y reutilizar una gran cantidad de elementos de división, permitió comunicar los distintos galpones y conseguir un espacio más fluido y luminoso: ambiente ideal para el trabajo integrado y en equipo.

El lugar se intervino buscando desarticular lo antiguo de lo nuevo. Antiguos muros gruesos, texturas y techos altos, se contraponen a las nuevas intervenciones con elementos ligeros, transparentes y mínimamente escalados a las necesidades de ocupación. La paleta de colores utilizada es neutra para mantener la tranquilidad y resaltar la amplitud de los espacios. El blanco, en distintos brillos, se utilizó como base para dar unidad y revalorizar los espacios a través de la luz. Los pisos se mantuvieron en color gris y se dieron algunos acentos en muros mediante el uso de color o haciendo aparecer el ladrillo. Las nuevas divisiones se hicieron vidriadas, buscando diluir los límites y confrontar estos nuevos elementos de aristas rectas y definidas con la imprecisión de lo antiguo. Las nuevas instalaciones de clima y electricidad se destacaron en metal galvanizado, avanzando en recorridos ordenados sobre la neutralidad del fondo blanco. Tanto el mobiliario como las lámparas fueron diseñadas por 57STUDIO siguiendo esta misma premisa de identidad y contraste sobre el espacio reciclado como telón de fondo.
