Despite being located in a central area of the city of S. João da Madeira, this house can really only be spotted when up close. It is set on a small plot of land with restricted and limited access.

Despite being compact, the building enjoys an interesting display of sizes reinforced by canopies, terraces, and closed outside patios, also with the use of different materials for the façades: “viroc” in the basement, slate on the ground floor and plaster on the first floor. By using these materials, the aim is to diminish the height of the building, affording a horizontal quality and differentiating the different storeys.

The house, which is rather shut off to the north, is wider to the east, south and west to benefit
from the sunlight, open space, and the small surrounding garden.

Fitting in with the lie of the land, the house is divided into three storeys: basement, ground floor and first floor.
In the basement there is a garage, utility area, laundry room, general storage room, games room and bathroom.
On the ground floor there is a living room, dining room and kitchen. To the west there is a bathroom and an office which could also be used as a guest room.
Connected by a study/work area on the upper floor which leans over the double height ceiling of the living room, there are two bedrooms, a bathroom and a master bedroom with dressing room and en-suite bathroom.

To the east, the height of the wall separating the neighbouring constructions is diminished using different sized white flower boxes which afford emphasis and levity.
