As the proud capital of the northern position of Rajasthan, the city of Jaipur which in fact, is the largest in the state is widely known both in our country and abroad for its historical and royal heritage. This city, widely known as the Pink City is the tenth most populous city in India. Founded in the year of 1727 by the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the raja of Amer, this city is a magnet to travelers from far and wide every year. Besides the rich heritage and colourful architecture, Jaipur also boasts of lip-smacking cuisines and warm people that could make this city a favourite of anybody.

Climate:

Jaipur has semi-arid to arid climate receiving 650 millimetres of annual rainfall approximately. While temperatures soar up from April, the winter months are pleasant with occasional cold waves leading to near freezing conditions.

 Culture:

Jaipur is replete with several cultural sites. Starting with the famous Hawa Mahal, this city boasts of enthralling forts such as the Amer Fort and the Jaigarh Fort that will give you a taste of our rich cultural past. Also, tourist attractions include Jantar Mantar and City Palace. This place is known all around the globe for its exquisite and hugely expensive hotels that offer a taste of luxury and extravagance to travelers from the country and abroad. In addition, this city is famous for its handicrafts. Starting with colourful clay toys to pottery and bangles and textiles, you will find everything to decorate your house. The fairs and festivals are hugely popular including the famous kite festival that is a tourist attraction now.

Cuisine:

Rajasthani cuisine is a scrumptious thaali comprising delicacies like Dal Baati Churma, Bajre ki Roti, sweet dishes like Mawa Kachori, Ghevar etc. Rajasthanis love their food and the love and warmth is evident in their lip-smacking cusine. One cannot hope to miss out on the Laal Maas with its fiery and tangy taste or the Rajasthani Kadi which is a little different from the kadi that you get in other states of North India.

People:

The traditions and people of this city are as colourful as the name that it has been endowed with. This city is replete with Marwaris who are fond of their traditions and rituals. They believe in ‘Jeeman’ or the banquet hospitality. Also, people here abhor the nuclear family concept and are found to be living together for generations. Indian traditions are reflected at their best in this city among its people.

Jaipur with all its enthralling colours will take you aback. With its beautiful forts and rich culture, this city has travelers returning to it falling prey to its charm.
