Varna / Bulgaria / 2015
A building that is both Container and Content. This has been the aim of the project.
Content as placed within a consolidated urban context, communicating with the
surroundings and especially with Varna Municipality Building; Container as it includes all
the features of a public building.
The choice of using panels of “U-profile” sandblasted glass for the exterior shell is
intended to lighten a large and compact volume like this, giving diffused light to the interior
and providing a sunscreen for energy efficiency.
The facade opens in some places to provide views to the outside through low-emission
glass panels.
A full-height inner void can visually connect all levels of the public areas and can provide
for natural ventilation.
The main storage features are shaped like a stack of books detached and superimposed
over the main volume.
