VARNA LIBRARY | GMA Gianluca Murano Architetto
International Competition Varna / Bulgaria / 2015
The new Verna Regional Library is organized in three functional units. The first unit, grouping ground and first floor, hosts functions for the public. The second unit, grouping second, third and fourth floor, is designed to host all the books of the central library. The façade of the second unit become a communication tool through a ledwall to play important announcements for the citizenship or live events related to the Library or not.
The reading area in the third unit is organized with distribution areas and bookcases facing the glass façades to create a visual link between the city and the life inside the library. This area is on the north side underneath the glass roof. On the top is placed a panoramic green terrace. The south corner of the unit, suspended on the ground floor, represents a great structural challenge with the aim to create a gate to the heart of the project from the outside establishing a relationship between the main lobby and the square.
