EN - The Crown, an installation commissioned and created by Casalgrande Padana to a design by Daniel Libeskind, was inaugurated on 17 October 2015 on the Dinazzano roundabout at the Casalgrande-Sassuolo junction
The Crown is a spectacular new landmark that follows on from the famous Casalgrande Ceramic Cloud, the first work created by Japanese master Kengo Kuma in Italy.
Installed near to the Casalgrande Padana production facility on two roundabouts situated on the Pedemontana route linking Casalgrande and Sassuolo, the two installations make up a monumental structure of notable architectural merit and symbolic value, creating a sort of “East Access Door” to the Emilian ceramics district.
Once again, the project was entrusted to one of the star names in the modern architectural panorama: Daniel Libeskind. A well-known figure all around the world, Libeskind has been involved in a fruitful collaboration with Casalgrande for some time now, which sees the two parties working together in a cycle of formal research and technological development that has already produced some fantastic results: from the cladding systems for the CityLife residences in Milan to the Pinnacle installation for Cersaie - Bologna Water Design 2013, the new series of Fractile ceramic tiles and even the spectacular cladding of the Vanke Pavilion at Expo 2015, with further façades for notable buildings in several foreign capitals currently in progress.
Casalgrande Ceramic Crown bears an unusual three-dimensional structure that experiments with innovative new uses for the latest generation of ceramic parts. Clad entirely with Fractile porcelain stoneware tiles with a raised fractal motif, the structure surges upwards with a spiral measuring 25 metres in height. The shape is pure compositional expression and emphasises the verticality of a sort of volumetric projection that combines an almost hand-sketched feel with unrivalled construction expertise to show that an ecologically friendly, flexible material such as porcelain stoneware can be used in even the most unexpected context.
Devised as a ventilated façade anchored to an extremely slender, sleek steel structure, The Crown is destined to become a new architectural benchmark in the area around the Casalgrande Padana headquarters.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Saturday 17 October 2015 on the roundabout between Via Filippo Turati and Via Pedemontana in Dinazzano, with participation from Daniel Libeskind, Casalgrande Padana president Franco Manfredini, Casalgrande mayor Alberto Vaccari and a host of other representatives from the institutions.

ITA - The Crown è un nuovo spettacolare landmark che si pone in continuità con l’ormai famoso Casalgrande Ceramic Cloud, prima opera realizzata in Italia dal maestro giapponese Kengo Kuma. 

Costruite in prossimità del sito produttivo di Casalgrande Padana, all’interno di due rotonde stradali entrambe poste sull’asse della Pedemontana che collega Casalgrande con Sassuolo, le due installazioni configurano un sistema monumentale di particolare pregio architettonico e valore simbolico, proponendosi come una sorta di “Porta d’accesso est” al distretto ceramico emiliano.

Anche in questo caso, il progetto è stato affidato a un protagonista del panorama architettonico contemporaneo: Daniel Libeskind. Figura di spicco a livello internazionale, Libeskind da tempo ha stretto un proficuo rapporto di collaborazione con Casalgrande Padana, nell’ambito di un comune percorso di ricerca formale e sviluppo tecnologico che ha già prodotto risultati di grande prestigio e contenuto: dai sistemi di facciata per Le Residenze City Life a Milano all’istallazione Pinnacle in occasione di Cersaie - Bologna Water Design 2013, dalla nuova serie di lastre ceramiche Fractile allo spettacolare rivestimento del Vanke Pavillion a Expo 2015, fino agli involucri di alcuni importanti edifici in corso di realizzazione in diverse capitali estere.

Casalgrande Ceramic Crown si configura come un’inconsueta struttura tridimensionale che sperimenta innovativi utilizzi applicativi dei componenti ceramici di ultima generazione. Interamente rivestita con elementi Fractile, speciali lastre in grès porcellanato caratterizzate da un motivo frattale a rilievo, la costruzione si sviluppa in verticale con una spirale che raggiunge i 25 metri di altezza. Una forma di pura espressività compositiva che enfatizza la verticalità con una sorta di proiezione volumetrica dello schizzo tracciato a mano che si concretizza in un virtuosismo costruttivo per dimostrare che un materiale ecologico e flessibile come il grès porcellanato può essere applicato nei contesti più inaspettati.

Concepito come una facciata ventilata ancorata a una struttura di acciaio molto snella ed esile, The Crown è destinato a diventare un nuovo punto di riferimento architettonico nel contesto territoriale che circonda lo stabilimento Casalgrande Padana.

La cerimonia d’inaugurazione si è tenuta sabato 17 ottobre 2015 presso la rotonda di intersezione tra via Filippo Turati e via Pedemontana a Dinazzano, e ha visto la partecipazione di Daniel Libeskind, Franco Manfredini, presidente di Casalgrande Padana, Alberto Vaccari, sindaco di Casalgrande e altri rappresentanti delle istituzioni.
