Well thought-out from the surface to the insulation - clear, linear, minimalist-elegant, bright, restrained - this is how the single-storey cubic-monolithic single-family house "V3" in a residential estate in Kempten appears to the observer. However, the new building is not only attractive: the use of high-performance vacuum insulation also ensures its energy balance.
The client's specification for us was: a ground-level, light-flooded design, the design of the facades in exposed concrete, a glazed inner courtyard, a walkable roof garden and, above all, the use of Vacupor vacuum insulation for the precast concrete walls manufactured by the client's company.
Thermos flask principle - The vacuum insulation, which is integrated into the concrete sandwich elements, functions according to the thermos flask principle: A vacuum is created in the cavity between the glass or steel walls of the insulating bottle, so that the few remaining air molecules can hardly transport any heat to the outside - the drink in the flask thus remains hot or cold for longer. This highly efficient insulation technology has been transferred to the vacuum insulation panels (VIP). Open-pored materials, fibreboards or powders are used as supporting bodies to prevent the evacuated cavity from collapsing. The support materials are wrapped in special gas- and water vapour-tight metallized plastic laminate films, which are sealed after evacuation so that the vacuum inside the wrapping remains intact.
