Award winning practice, BuckleyGrayYeoman, has completed the refurbishment of Fred Perry’s latest international store in Cologne, Germany, uniting the brand’s iconic British heritage with the vibrant identity of Ehrenstraβe, one of the main shopping areas of the city.
BuckleyGrayYeoman has refurbished the outdated 1,200 sq ft. Fred Perry Cologne store to create a contemporary shopping experience which maximizes the impact of the retail space. This project continues the design language BuckleyGrayYeoman has successfully rolled out at stores in London, Munich and Bangkok.
The plan arrangement has been reorganised to create two distinctive spaces, with clothing displayed in the front room and accessories and fitting rooms situated to the rear of the store.
A simple and understated material palette of galvanized metal, plywood and concrete has been sourced for the refurbishment. BuckleyGrayYeoman utilised the versatility of plywood, using it in a number of applications to highlight different functions and displays within the store. Fred Perry Cologne also features super-sized graphics printed directly onto plywood panels used to clad the walls, adding to the bold character of the store.

Paul White, Director at BuckleyGrayYeoman, said:
“The Fred Perry Cologne store subtly combines the coolness of contemporary British culture with Fred Perry’s sporting and cultural heritage. Every element of the shop has been refined and honed to communicate the character of the brand from the material selection to the graphic placement. We wanted to highlight the brand’s ethos and aesthetic and create a pleasant retail environment. ”

This is the first refurbishment of an existing Fred Perry store by BuckleyGrayYeoman, and the practice’s second commission in Germany, as part of its role as Fred Perry’s Worldwide Retail Design Consultant. The Cologne store is the seventh project BuckleyGrayYeoman has completed for Fred Perry and the practice has been recently appointed to design the Fred Perry Headquarters in London.
