Symmetry and aspect are the hallmarks of this refined Portsea property. Intended as a gallery-esque pavilion style coastal hideout for a large family, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom home displays a sense of the handmade, despite its sleekly modern appearance.

The brief was to achieve a simplified sense of calm, rather than having something that feels cluttered. To achieve this aim, Mim Design first went about reconfiguring the floor plan, so that the L-shaped building was divided into separate wings for adults and children. Tactile elements that keep with the coastal location, such as slatted timber wall panels, super soft knotted wool carpets and natural stone benches, were chosen for their ability to foster a sense of casual, refined and modern seaside luxury.

The result is a relaxing home, where the family can spend quality time together in a picturesque coastal environment that feels both sleek and soothing.
