Architectural design determines the quality of life within a vital space, therefore contemporary architecture is required to create pharmacies that combine design and ergonomics. This project is a renovation of a typical Greek pharmacy with little space, where non-prescription products antagonize with medicine for a place on the shelves. Large windows allow daylight to flood into the space during the day, while at night the bright artificial lighting works to make the space more welcoming. The white, tailor-made, lacquered counter finishing in a small office desk, contrasts the silver-grey displays and large grey tiles. The loft provides privacy for the pharmacist, with controlled visual and acoustic communication with the sales room. A small seating area offers a place for customers to relax in whilst waiting for their medication.
