The multi venue “Syndetiras” is situated within the old urban tissue of Patras’ historical centre.
The architectural practice PS. WORKSHOP (Gerasimos Pappas, Maria Spathi) undertook its creation, in terms of architectural design, interior and furniture design, as well as branding and graphic design.
The multi venue design allows for its transformation according to the demands of its users. Thus, the rectilinear open plan floor of the building is divided by metallic sliding panels in two sections, offering flexibility, while the furniture, designed specifically for the space’s requirements, can be adjusted to several alternative uses: osb cubes are used as stands during projections, as a stage during concerts, as stands for exhibitions, or simply as seating.
The building façade was fully restored to its former state, with large glass surfaces facing the street. Internally, the selection of materials in their raw form, as well as the highlighting and re-use of existing elements such as the old mosaic floor, the façade shutters and the visible ventilation shafts, intensify the industrial look of the space, reduce construction costs while simultaneously covering for functional needs (cement block for added sound protection).
During the summer season, the roof terrace accommodates a bar with views to the city castle, and projections also take place; here the design includes hard materials (cement screed, pebbles) and planted vegetation aiming to create conditions of thermal comfort for the users, additionally ensuring a space that is familiar and pleasant
