The home of the rothoblaas company – a major retailer of carpentry supplies – is located at the southern entrance to the "Etschweg" industrial zone in Kurtatsch. Framed by orchards, to the east the motorway and to the west the railway line pass by the company headquarters. This prominent location offered the opportunity to create a visual calling card for the company through impressive architecture.

The result is a compact, linear volume that enters into an open dialogue with its surroundings. Untreated wood is used extensively in the new building. This is a reference to the company's field of activity and a tribute to nature. Together with large glass surfaces, this results in an interplay of transparency and solidity.
The large, striking roof rises vertically on the north facade, transitions seamlessly into the horizontal and lies protectively on top of the building. Wide cantilevers protect the interior from direct sunlight. The wooden east facade with the oversized company logo becomes a large advertising space for the company.

The ground floor houses the main warehouse, the retail shop and the reception area for guests. A large open staircase leads to the administration area on the upper floor. Offices, workshop and meeting rooms are grouped around a central roof garden, which can be used for recreation. The glass facade offers direct views of the surrounding nature, as if from a high tree house. Flexible room dividers made of glass allow for a transparent and versatile room programme and make the space optimally usable.

Natürliche Perspektiven
Das Zuhause der Firma rothoblaas – ein Großhandelsbetrieb für Zimmereibedarf – befindet sich an der Südeinfahrt der Gewerbezone „Etschweg“ in Kurtatsch. Eingerahmt von Obstwiesen führt am Firmensitz im Osten die Autobahn und im Westen die Bahnlinie vorbei. Diese prominente Lage bot die Möglichkeit durch beeindruckende Architektur eine Visitenkarte für das Unternehmen zu schaffen.

Das Endresultat ist ein kompaktes, lineares Volumen, das mit seiner Umgebung in offenen Dialog tritt. Unbehandeltes Holz kommt beim neuen Bau großflächig zum Einsatz. Dies ist ein Hinweis auf das Tätigkeitsfeld des Unternehmens und eine Hommage an die Natur. Zusammen mit großen Glasflächen ergibt sich daraus ein Zusammenspiel von Transparenz und Solidität. Das große markante Dach strebt an der Nordfassade vertikal empor, geht nahtlos in die Horizontale über und legt sich schützend auf das Gebäude. Weite Auskragungen bewahren das Innere vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung. Die hölzerne Ostfassade mit dem überdimensionalen Firmenlogo wird zur großen Werbefläche.

Im Erdgeschoss befinden sich das Hauptlager, der Detailverkauf und der Empfangsbereich für Gäste. Über eine große Freitreppe gelangt man in den Verwaltungsbereich im Obergeschoss. Büros, Seminar- und Besprechungsräume gruppieren sich um einen zentralen Dachgarten, der zur Erholung genutzt werden kann. Durch die Glasfassade eröffnen sich direkte Blickbezüge auf die umliegende Natur wie aus einem hochgelegenen Baumhaus. Flexible Raumteiler aus Glas ermöglichen ein transparentes und vielseitiges Raumprogramm und machen die Fläche optimal nutzbar.

Prospettive naturali
La sede dell'azienda Rothoblaas - un importante rivenditore all’ingrosso di materiali per l’edilizia in legno - si trova all'entrata sud della zona industriale "Etschweg" a Kurtatsch. Circondata da frutteti passano accanto alla sede dell’azienda l'autostrada ad est e la linea ferroviaria a ovest. Questa sua location e la sua architettura pronunciata danno la possibilità al nuovo edificio di diventare il biglietto da visita per l’entrata in città.

Il risultato è un volume compatto e lineare che entra in un dialogo con l'ambiente circostante. Il legno non trattato è il materiale principale nel nuovo edificio, un aspetto questo che rispecchia il settore dell'azienda e al tempo stesso un aspetto attento alla sostenibilità. L’alternanza tra vetro e legno, danno maggiore solennità all’intera architettura, giocando su una melodia alternata tra trasparenza e solidità.

Il grande e monumentale tetto si alza verticalmente dalla facciata nord, trasformandosi in una superficie continua orizzontale che si estende verso l’infinito. Le ampie superfici a sbalzo proteggono l'interno dalla luce solare diretta. La facciata est in legno con il logo aziendale dalle grandi dimensioni diventa una grande superficie pubblicitaria per l'azienda.

Il piano terra ospita il magazzino principale, il negozio e la reception. Una grande scala aperta conduce verso l'area amministrativa al piano superiore. Gli uffici, l’officina e le sale riunioni sono distribuiti intorno a un giardino pensile centrale, che può essere utilizzato per le fresche pause. La facciata in vetro offre una vista diretta sulla natura circostante, come fossimo in una casa sull’albero ad alta quota. I pannelli di vetro che dividono le diverse aree, rendono lo spazio un luogo trasparente e versatile.
