Alterations & Additions Northcote / Australia / 2014

An alteration & addition to an existing late Edwardian single fronted terrace in a heritage listed street in Northcote. The project is gloriously ‘small’ being approximately 36sqm, combining eating/sitting/writing/cooking and laundry facilities. A small ‘box’ ensuite was placed into the corner of the existing living space replacing the original ‘lean-to’ bathroom space. Polycarbonate highlight windows wrap around the bath space allowing light to enter and the bath to ‘glow’ during occupation. A crafted ‘pop-up’ ceiling/roof faces north allowing northern light to filter into these new spaces and also venting air through operable louvres. Euroa Glazed bricks in ‘Violet’ wraps the western and eastern facades reminiscent of the Greek/Macedonian cultural history of the suburb.
