Just one year since its opening, Brisbane Airport Corporation’s (BAC) new BNE Service Centre has already become an integral part of the growing airport community.

The distinctive design by national architecture practice ThomsonAdsett is both visually striking and functional; providing a welcoming hub to visitors and staff alike.

The brief called for a unique approach to a single-level facility to cater for the existing 21,000 staff and growing airport community, which sees 22.8 million annual passengers through its terminals.

The building design and orientation focuses on creating a dynamic presence that catches the eye of passing traffic, with the raised eyebrow of the overarching canopy welcoming visitors and passing drivers.

The visually-striking exterior balances both form and function, providing uninterrupted air circulation to the centre’s seven tenancies.

The clever architectural lines continue inside the structure, with the eye-catching geometric ceiling design a key feature of the space.

The largest of its kind in the country, the unique ceiling was inspired by the undulating shape of Queensland's iconic Fraser Island, and is made up of 71 triangular panels ranging from 1.2m to 7.7m in length.

Balance is reflected in the fine details of the centre, through the use of wooden panelling and quartz gold porcelain tiles, creating a comfortable temperature for customers to relax, while highlighting the natural beauty of Queensland’s warm climate.
