M&A

Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
Client: Laing O’Rourke

M&A is a mixed-use, multi-residential development that has revitalised a quiet corner of Fortitude Valley. Bureau^proberts worked with the local council on the pedestrian laneway that runs through the site to create a retail and residential mix that has significantly contributed to the area.

The strategy was to knit the development with the streets, laneways and edges of The Valley, to create a character that is relevant and of its place. The site is divided by a new public lane that continues the street pattern of the area, and provides places for the growing population to gather and enjoy the surroundings.

A high rise residential tower provides comfortable, liveable apartments facing the desirable northern aspect with a view back towards the city. These apartments have narrow, deep footprints in response to the abundant sunlight. The southern city aspect has narrow floor plates to maximise the amount of sun, and are screened to protect from the summer afternoon heat. The buildings use simple materials of concrete and metal that respond to the industrial heritage of the area.
