There was no kitchen, just a freestanding refrigerator and stove,” says Senalee Kapelevich of SVK Interior Design of the modern kitchen she conjured up for a Noe Valley couple out of their Victorian-era built home. The couple, who had lived in the apartment for a year before proceeding with any renovations, asked her to create a kitchen that would not only be comfortable to cook in but that would allow them to access the backyard, the setting for their frequent weekend barbecues. “They had a really good perspective on how they actually used the space because they’d lived in it,” Kapelevich points out, “and, because they both work in very visual professions, they were extremely easy to work with.
