Our project proposes a building constructed in compliance with the existing fabric, with respect to the type, materials and colors
of the big apple, an archetype that fi ts into the existing context and dialogues with it and the high line that is a strong distinctive element.
Th e concept of our building off ers the combination of an archetypal newyorkeese building in which the elements have been
implemented to make it a reference point in the current debate on the nutrition of the planet and the need to fi nd new models of
construction of the city. A building in which the presence of the technology things seem a natural advancement of the art
and not a sign of breaking sharply with the present and the past. Our building is a ”closed ecosystem”, understood as self_
suffi cient, able to feed its people and the city outside in which the concept of “local food” is brought to the maximum level.
Th e study of the site allowed us to identify the best southern exposure and a series of setbacks of the facade has allowed us to take advantage of the
vertical surface that in this way has become easily accessible. Th e production area gained is 50% compared to only horizontal projection of the roof.
Th e purpose of the project is to implement an urban farm in a building, and the best way to maximize the potential of agriculture in the urban
environment is to use the hydroponic system that permits both the agricultural and fi sheries production with a symbiotic exploitation. Th e
surface of the terraces is entirely dedicated to the agricultural cultivation and this is protected by glass and steel greenhouses that become a natural
extension of the apartments and also provide the heat regulation in summer and winter and giving the building a transparent façade facing south.
Th e functional program provides a base of 4 fl oors up to the portion of the High Line in which it develops an
activity of industrial closed circuit production, use and sale of quality BIO products at 0 miles. “It’s a closed
loop system” does not require a vehicle transport with consequent reduction of CO2 released into the air.
It’s composed by a biomarket , an hydroponic fl oor , an intesnive agricultural fl oor production and a restaurant .
that does not aff ected by the seasonal, in which the growth of plants and fi sh is constantly controlled.
On the cover is also placed an apiary, a fundamental element for natural pollination of plants that produce honey collected
himself and consumed by the inhabitants themselves, and a water tank, that is a traditional part of the city of New York.
