The workshop was about the rehabilitation of a historic district of the “acient Medina” of Marrakech (Morocco). The Laboratory course included an inspection on site, so we visited with the professor both the city of Marrakech and the desert all around, with the intention to explore the use of the clay technology in architecture. I learned different ways of interventions practically in situ (adobe and pisè technology most of all). The final project that we had to present to the Marrakech University had to introduce in the area some traditional residences and redevelop the old hammam (public baths, a very symbolic building of the islamic culture).
The concept of the project was linked to the sustainability (that’s why the use of a very cheap and natural material) and the tradition very radicated in the city.
