BodySmith Gym+Studio | ADS (Architectural Design Studio)

BodySmith Gym +Studio approached ADS in 2012 with the desire to expand their current gym. The clients’ current facility was at 1648 14th St. NW in Washington, DC north of Logan Circle. The client had acquired a lease for expansion a few doors down in an existing two-story automotive shop. The client desired space for personal training studio, workout classrooms, general workout area, and a juice bar. The design juxtaposes the industrial interior of the Art-deco building, allowing the existing concrete and brick structure to be exposed and infill with glass and sleek walls and ceiling elements and a floating stair. To maximize floor area for the main program, all the support spaces were grouped together and stacked to minimize loss of space.
