Il Bacaro

The client asked me to transform an existing unit located in the old town center of Giulianova into a wine shop with the possibility for the customers to taste the wine they sold with small meals.

The unit was divided into three rooms, two on the main entrance square, one in the back, facing a terrace with panorama. There was already on site a toilette.

The functional Idea was to dedicate the two rooms on the square to the shop and to the restaurant, and to place the kitchen in a slice of the back room, leaving a wide passage to the terrace, that could be used during the warm seasons.

The spatial idea was to create the maximum relationship between the wine shop, the restaurant and the terrce, either from the perceptive point of view, or from the functional one.

The entire existing plaster was demolished in the two front rooms, and the false ceiling was demolished as well. So the walls became an exposed brick surface, and the ceiling a sequence of small brick vaults (the pre existing) that was painted white. A new ceramic floor simulating wood was mounted as well.

Moreover the connecting doors between the different spaces were enlarged to visually connect the different ambients.

A big wooden counter characterize the restaurant room and a smooth plastered green wall gives identity to the shop room.

The other furniture was second hand, and put together without a specific rule, to give a warmer atmosphere.
