The project speaks of a strong urban presence, with an institutional façade that aims at establishing an harmonious dialogue with the adjoining public square. Of major importance is its centrality in the neighbourhood, asserting itself as a meeting place for young people and the general public.

At the heart of the project is the atrium, around which different activities are organized; during opening hours, it is an extension of the nearby square.

The atrium provides flexibility for its users; the space is neutral, non-objectified, available for appropriation. Created with the building’s future occupants in mind, it allows for extensions of activities in the shared spaces on the ground floor, as well as being suitable for a variety of events.

A multi-functional climate roof covers the whole space:

The large canopy symbolizes both protection and openness, using an airy and horizontal language. Covering all four sides of the atrium, it projects assertively over Place des Aravis.

The support structure and photovoltaic solar panels offer protection from summer heat while capturing the sun’s energy.

The part of the roof covering the atrium is retractable, making the atrium both a thermal regulator and an indoor-outdoor space whose ambiance changes with the seasons and the activities taking place there. In the summer it is an open-air space, in the winter an oasis of light.

Viewed from the square, the large outdoor patios and raised loggias are like picture windows that showcase the activities happening in the centre. From the inside, they frame the urban space and offer a different perspective on the centre’s surroundings. These terraces connect the atrium and the city, striking a balance between interiority and openness.

Le projet affirme une présence urbaine forte, avec une façade au caractère institutionnel qui dialogue et établit un rapport juste avec l’espace public qui lui fait face. L’ensemble devient le point de centralité du quartier, le lieu de rendez-vous des jeunes et de la population.

 Au cœur de l’équipement est installé un atrium autour duquel sont organisées les différentes activités. Aux heures d’ouverture de l’équipement, il prolonge l’espace public.

 Il laisse le choix aux usagers de ses modalités d’occupation. Ce vide est neutre, non chosifié, appropriable. Cet espace, offert aux futurs occupants, permet de prolonger les activités des espaces partagés du rez-de-chaussée et d’accueillir divers événements.

 Une surtoiture climatique aux multiples fonctions couvre l’ensemble de l’équipement :

 Ce grand auvent symbolise à la fois la protection et l’ouverture dans un langage aérien et horizontal.  Présent sur les 4 côtés de l ‘équipement, il s’avance de manière très affirmée sur le square des Aravis.

La structure est support de panneaux photovoltaïques et solaires qui protègent de la chaleur estivale tout en captant l’énergie.

La partie de toiture qui recouvre l’atrium est amovible. L’atrium devient un élément de régulation thermique ainsi qu’un véritable espace intérieur extérieur aux ambiances et atmosphères variées évoluant au rythme des saisons et des activités qui s’y déroulent. L’été un espace à ciel ouvert, l’hiver un espace lumineux.

 Les grandes terrasses extérieures ou loggias surélevées sont comme de grandes fenêtres urbaines mettant en scène les différentes activités du centre depuis l’espace public. À l’inverse, depuis l’intérieur, elles offrent des cadrages de l’espace urbain et proposent ainsi un autre regard sur son environnement. Ces terrasses mettent en lien l’atrium et la ville, dans une recherche d’équilibre entre intériorité et ouverture.
