This stately 1910 landmarked building, whose curved facade overlooks the Hudson River and Riverside Park, is the location of this 2,770 sf residence that boldly marries prewar details and contemporary design. In converting two apartments into one, raad studio restored and highlighted the excellent bones, -- high ceilings, ornate moldings, and natural light -- while infusing it with contemporary panache. Custom displays for the owners’ art collection and a steam-punk TV cabinet-slash-partition are among the elements that demonstrate raad’s focus on materiality, joinery, and detail. Rough, reclaimed wood is used throughout, playing off against decorative moldings and polished stone. Pared-down restraint in the bedrooms contrasts with exuberance in the public areas.
