The extension of the court house in Deutschlandsberg (Austria) sets a clear break with the existing historical building. A glass gap, which reflects the environment, forms a point of contact between the historical part and the addition of the court house.
The extension is a simple, plastered, two level building that takes up specific formal elements from the existing building and reinterprets those elements, like the dimensions of the windows and the colour of the facade. In this way the historical parts are continued, and the extension can be observed as an independent building.
The "backside“ of the old court house gets an upgrade in cause of the new part. The new building develops a square between the church and itself.
