FIRST PRICE : "PREMIERE OEUVRE" BY LE MONITEUR.

The research center is designed to welcome 250 researchers and numerous equipments such as IRM 3, microscopes, laboratories, all of them specialized in brain medical imagery.

Despite a program with big technical and functional constraints, the building has got its own dynamic of volumes and spaces. Settled in a tree-filled landscape, the building comes to the surface in the direction of an unstable position, overhanging the site. With its elongate parallelepiped form, the building has been scooped out on its rim and completed by new volumes (the two IRMs and the entry).

One of the particularities of the project is the terraces on the first floor. If they allow the staff to enjoy the outsides and so the daylight which enters via bay windows, they also set back the offices, giving them the part of confidentiality they need.

Both levels are organized around central circulations which are naturally lighted. They punctually become wider in order to create exchanges and sociability spaces between researchers.

Upstairs, offices are brought together in a hub. Three, four, six or ten working committees are assembled, allowing a great spatial diversity.

On the ground floor, the laboratories take up the whole building width. This simple disposition authorizes a kind of flexibility of the layouts connected with the development of research needs. Premises are assembled according to their specifics risks: classic laboratories, laboratories using radiactive elements, IRM. The placement respects also the organization into a hierarchy of the experimentation. It is going from the biggest subject to the smallest, from the dissection room to the microscopes room, until the ADN/ARN laboratory.

Each laboratory has got the air-conditioner and is fitted with lab benches and hoods.

The bright green on the wall of the ground floor and the ceiling of the first floor extends the tree-filled landscape of the campus inward. This color brightens the clinical atmosphere of the research center.

Le bâtiment est destiné à accueillir 250 chercheurs et de nombreux équipements de haute technologie (IRM 3T, IRM 7T, microscopes, EEG, laboratoires) spécialisés dans la recherche sur l’imagerie du cerveau.

Malgré les grandes contraintes techniques et fonctionnelles du programme, le bâtiment possède sa propre dynamique de volume et d’espace. Ancrée dans le paysage arboré, le bâtiment émerge du sol vers un porte-à-faux surplombant le terrain. Le bâtiment en forme d’un parallélépipède allongée, a été évidé sur sa périphérie et complété par des volumes rapportés (les 2 IRMs et l’accueil).

Les terrasses du niveau supérieur constituent l’une des particularités du projet. Si elles permettent aux chercheurs de profiter des espaces extérieurs et de la lumière naturelle, elles mettent également les bureaux en retrait, obtenant ainsi une part de confidentialité nécessaire.

Les deux niveaux sont organisés autour de circulations centrales qui sont éclairées naturellement et qui s’élargissent ponctuellement pour créer des espaces d’échange et de sociabilité pour les chercheurs.

A l’étage les bureaux sont regroupés en pôles. Trois, quatre, six ou dix cellules de travail (15 m²) sont assemblées et permettent une grande diversité spatiale.

Au RDC les laboratoires occupent la totalité de la largeur du bâtiment. Cette disposition simple autorise une flexibilité des aménagements en liaison avec les évolutions des besoins de recherche.  Les locaux sont regroupés selon leurs risques spécifiques : laboratoires classiques, laboratoires utilisant des éléments radioactifs, IRM. Leur disposition respecte également une hiérarchisation des expérimentations sur des sujets des plus grands au plus petits, des salles de dissection aux salles de microscope, jusqu’au au laboratoire ADN/ARN.

Les laboratoires sont climatisés et équipés de paillasses et de hottes.

Les intérieurs sont relevés d'un vert vif aux murs (RDC) ou aux plafonds (étage) qui prolonge l'environnement arboré du campus vers l’intérieur et égaie l’atmosphère clinique de ce lieu de recherche.
