The central stop of Leipzigs' City Tunnel (opened December 2013) is situated directly beneath the markeplace. Once an underground trade fair hall (Untergrundmessehalle) had inhabited the space, now the new underground station is going far deeper beneath ground, but still uses the historic Art Deco style entrance (designed by Otto Droge) from the 1920s. The station is using terracotta plates as its facade and on the upper level two balconies provide a view of the track system. Architects: Kellner-Schleich-Wunderling Architekten + Stadtplaner (ksw Architekten)
