The complex of the Palace “Ex Pellegrini Carmignani Foundation” is a very important urban organism into the medieval village where there was built since the fourteenth century. Originally the complex was built as the Palace of the Vicar and later aggregate with the convent of Poor Clares of the late sixteenth century. During the years has undergone successive substantial alteration that made it diffi cult to read the artifact in its typological features. The intervention was focused to identify and read the varioustransformations of the building with a contemporary design of the light as a non invasive component of identifi cation. The lighting system characteristic is diversified by type of source (fl uorescent and LED RGB) and for the design of the lamp bodies that leads to a twofold interpretation of space: punctual and sequential. The adaptation to the regulatory environment – which serves as a library, historical municipal and multipurpose spaces for recreation and exhibition – has been solved by minimizing the visibility of the fire protection systems, the partitioning, the air conditioning and the accessibility, in order to achieve the rigorous requirements of Local Superintendent of Arts, without compromising the necessary functional and demands of the community. The reorganization of vertical connections maintains the scales present on the ground floor of the gallery, that provides access to the first floor, in order to maintain of the fresco of the Madonna del Soccorso which is located in the compartment on the ground floor. The new scale that connects the fi rst and the second fl oor, which also presents a safety escape, is resolved with a steel frame and local sandstone steps. The new vertical connection also allows you to integrate the main public functions (library and historical archive) on the second floor porch which is indicated for multipurpose use. There are materials and fi nishes which let:
• save and integrate the historical materials;
• make use of materials and components with low visual impact that allow a clear readability
contemporary intervention without generating false mimesis.
The needs to the partitioning of fire led to the choice of a system of wooden frames REI 120
cherry finish that allow seamless integration environments. The countertops design has been determined in accordance with the Superintendent, through the defi nition of the main beams of the warping wooden fl oors previously consolidated. As for the general painting of the complex, the choice of light ivory painting, that is sensitive to the variation of natural and artifi cial light, makes the dynamic perception of the building as a whole.
