Project b30 is located in Britannia, one of Calgary’s oldest established neighborhoods. This 2014 project was designed to incorporate modern design concepts with the existing culture of the historic community. This idea was carried out through integrating traditional exterior and interior elements in a modern fashion. Homage was paid to the community by using natural timeless materials and maintaining the style of the era surrounding it. The exterior utilizes a mix of robust finishes from natural cedar, earthy brick, warm stucco, and standing seam metalguaranteeing the home’s ageless status. Modern elements were tied into the exterior through the use of monochromatic color and details, as seen in the vertical cedar that wraps into the soffit. The slight pitch in the roofline adds a subtle classic element to the house. The large window coverage of the home allows natural light to penetrate throughout the home creating an unbroken connection between indoors and outdoors. This home fits perfectly in a historic neighborhood while including a sophisticated modern living space.
