It is easier to build something than remodel it. However, it does not mean it’s more interesting. Anyway, it is architect Sergei Gotvyansky’s opinion, who got to work on the typical Canadian panelized house bought in the 90s.

At first, it was a temptation to demolish cramped and therefore not very comfortable building. Then nature intervened with the process - a global reconstruction could damage the beautiful green park and lovely lake on the site. Therefore, it was decided to act delicately within a framework of an existing structure.

The terrace was winterized and attached to the living room in order to add more space, air and light. Thus, the second level of the house has received an additional living space. The walls of the upstairs are supported by a metal I-bar (there was an outside wall in this place earlier) – the "brutal" structure was decided not to hide but paint in white. A powerful fireplace portal was designed in addition the I-bar and made of sheet steel with decorative frame of channel. The next key space-formed element is SieMatic kitchen in the style of Beaux Arts, which was chosen on the initiative of the customer in the beginning of the planning. Thus, the dining and fireplace areas are located on the former terrace attached to a small cozy living room and kitchen. Fabric Cassina was used for upholstery of chairs Tonon, placed next to the fireplace, which helped to create the whole composition. The same fabric was used for furniture in the living room (fabric had been bought in the factory Cassina and sent to the factory Tonon). Perfectionism is justified. As a result, a new space has both freedom and comfort, and high windows look over the the intact garden.
