Sumaida + Khurana is developing 152 Elizabeth Street. The project is an ultra-luxury condominium building designed by Japanese master architect, Tadao Ando and acclaimed architect of the interior, Michael Gabellini. It is the first building Ando has designed in Manhattan.

Located at the corner of Kenmare and Elizabeth Street in Nolita, the 32,000-square-foot building will stand as a profound architectural statement while embracing the industrial character of the area. The project will incorporate materials that are Ando hallmarks: poured-in-place concrete, galvanized steel, voluminous glass, and natural elements including multiple water features and green walls. The building will rise 7 stories and include a large, rooftop terrace for the penthouse. It will feature 7 highly individualized residences with bespoke options, ranging from 2 bedrooms to 5 bedrooms and each measuring from 1,950 square feet to over 5,600 square feet.

The collaboration between Ando and Gabellini reflects a purity of design that is unprecedented in a residential project in New York.

Michael Gabellini of widely celebrated firm Gabellini Sheppard Associates is collaborating with Ando to design the building’s interiors and is serving as architect of record, bringing his refined sensibility and signature style to 152 Elizabeth Street. He is responsible for the re-inauguration of The Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, major landmarks such as Top of the Rock and stores for top luxury brands Armani, Jil Sander and Ferragamo. Gabellini along with Kimberly Sheppard of Gabellini Sheppard Associates, will design the interiors and serve as the Architect of Record. 152 Elizabeth Street measures nearly 32,000-square feet and will rise seven stories. Each of its seven residences are being treated as custom homes and are individually configured to highlight their unparalleled level of craft and quality.

Ando is the world’s preeminent architect and the only one to have won all four of the leading international architecture honors including the Pritzker Prize, the Premium Imperiale, the Carlsberg Prize and the Kyoto Prize. 152 Elizabeth Street will stand as a profound architectural statement and incorporate materials that are Ando hallmarks: poured-in-place concrete, galvanized steel, voluminous glass and a living green wall measuring 55-feet-high and 99-feet-wide that is one of the largest in New York City. The building’s design references four primary elements - light, sound, air, and water - to masterful end and finds beauty in its refinement and simplicity. 152 Elizabeth Street celebrates its Nolita context, an energetic and diverse neighborhood with a central-downtown location that is home to some of the city’s most celebrated restaurants, shops and cultural venues.

Sumaida + Khurana is developing 152 Elizabeth Street as part of its mission to bring to New York the world’s most renowned, contemporary architects to design their inaugural buildings. The firm will also be collaborating with widely celebrated, Pritzker Prize winning Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza for his first building in the United States, which will be a 400’+ tower located in Midtown Manhattan.
