CONCEPT
Visual + Impact. Prometheus starts by accepting that the two words can work alongside pretty well. We all have to accept that, despite all efforts, a series of pylons scattered around a landscape will never be invisible.

While still a filigree structure on the inside, Prometheus’ external envelope will convert the typically dull frames into nice looking objects that, like wind turbines, will be placed into the landscape as inevitably man-made statements: energy can be good – energy can look good.

Originally conceived to resemble a flame, Prometheus’ captivating form will express the Company’s Core Values – dynamism, energy and power. The pylons will become recognisable beacons that will place Landsnet at the forefront of environmental sensibility.

Prometheus’ shape may suit a variety of locations; it will be the colour, material and density of its cladding to place it contextually and to achieve the desired effect: a distant object blended in the landscape or a prominent urban object.

AN ICELANDIC PYLON – A LANDSNET PYLON
The general image of Iceland is that of a unique country of sharp contrasts and extremes conditions.
Sharp + Extreme – Ice + Volcanoes + Lava.

Optimists will look at Prometheus as flames rising from that ground where it all starts in Iceland: its character, its resources, its unpredictable moods.
Prometheus expresses the dynamic and constantly changing aspects of what lies beneath in Iceland: hot flames rising from the materiality of the ground to the ethereal of the sky – a solid, rounded and down-to-earth section at the base becoming thinner and lighter and sharper at the top like the air becomes sharper and colder.

Pessimists with an inclination for a diffused folklore may look at it as the Devil’s horns from the Underworld, we won’t mind, provided that it will ignite that sense of awe and inspiration that we intended.

TECHINCAL DATA
Internal structure: steel frame with tubular mullions and horizontal stiffening diaphragms. Pylons are conceived cantilevering off the concrete base, eliminating the need for cables, anchor blocks and relative perimetral groundworks.

External cladding: recycled sheets from aluminium smelters are envisaged as the ideal solution cost, and sustainability, wise (recycled aluminium requires only 5% of the energy required to make new one, with no distinct difference in terms of quality or properties).

Conductors: compared to existing pylons the three main conductors are still horizontally aligned, slightly wider apart to allow the `flames` to pass through undisturbed. Two ground wires hang from the sharp tops.
