Britam Tower | GAPP Architects and Urban Designers
New Office for British American Investment, Kenay Nairobi / Kenya / 2016
A thirty storey multi-tenanted office development for Britam in the up market area of Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya.
The client requested a choice of two concepts; a medium-rise and a high-rise development of the same built area (approximately 30 000m²).The medium-rise design consisted of two eight storey wings connected with a parabolic tensile roof enclosing the courtyard space between the wings.
The prismatic, iconic thirty storey high-rise ultimately got the nod, and is currently under construction. Floor sizes vary between 1200m² (at ground) and 600m² at the top.
The full height curtain wall facade is screened by a ceramic rod "veil", with the rods spaced differently depending on orientation, thus lending an ethereal effect to a solid beacon in the urban landscape.
