suspended timber construction in a heyrick Grisons / Switzerland / 2011
Originally, the residents of the traditional Engadin home only wanted to install additional book shelves in one of their rooms. However, the architect convinced them of a sensitive intervention in the hayrick of the building. It now contains two timber spaces suspended from the existing bearing structure – a windowless book room equipped with shelves on all sides, and a reading room with a table, chair and a window that illuminates the space and offers a view of the mountains. The rooms are suspended in the hayrick. They use the air space without interfering with the existing structures. Rather, the hayrick also enhances the status of the hayloft located beneath it, which will be used as a summer living room from now on.
