The hotel 25hours in Hamburg was Germany‘s first low-budget design hotel. We developed a suitable interior concept originating from the idea ‘affordable style’, which made a virtue out of functional necessities and welcomed the guests with a surprisingly high grade of com- fort as well as with very individual style.

Our client: Hotel mastermind Kai Hollmann

The 25h hotel was our first project we carried out for the hotelier Kai Hollmann. With his visionary gift and stylish taste Hollmann was one of the first to see that the time had come for a budget design hotel. After a pitch with five de- sign agencies Hollmann confided in Dreimeta to carry out his cutting-edge project.

Our task: Design a novel hotel concept in the low-budget segment

The 25hours hotel was to instantiate stay-overs as a design experience at a low price. There were no guidelines for the new concept; exciting, humorous and affordable design ideas were asked for. The target group for the hotel were opinion leaders, young creative minds such as advertisers or models who were to dis- cover a new hotel experience in the Hamburg quarter close to the city centre.

Our idea: Newly defined function rooms and individually designed furniture

According to our understanding the task to design a budget hotel is no less challenging than to design a luxury hotel. Which means the idea exceeds merely decorating; materials and furniture were carefully chosen or specially designed for its purpose. We developed
new spatial functions and a design language which foreclosed trends, but which were also timeless enough to persist throughout the years to come.

Our design solution: A high-class mix of styles, materials and designs

We had 128 guest rooms and 5 studios to de- sign in the rebuilt Hamburg Kontorhaus. Ad- ditionally, we designed the interior of a meditation room, a community living room and a bar. The spacious lounge offers the guests room for meetings during the daytime and for a party location at night. In the multifunctional entertainment area, the ‘living room’, an open fireplace is perfect for relaxing. A flexible light system can stage various ambiences day and night. The guest rooms are retro-style with textured wallpaper, exposed concrete or romantic-chic with floral wallpaper, zebra- no wood and colour accents in magenta. All rooms were designed in a subtle, clear style and equipped for maximum versatility. Our furnishing was chosen on the premise that inexpensive hotel rates do not mean neglecting high-quality. Almost all furniture pieces were specially designed for the 25hours hotel by Dreimeta and supplemented with high-quality interior elements from manufacturers such as Living Divani, Flos and Brioni Vega.

Our success: A benchmark for budget design hotels

Today the 25hours in Hamburg is considered to be the classic budget design hotel. The es- tablishment has become a favourite place to go, not only for opinion leaders. The clientele ranges from backpackers over design aficionados to young families. The concept has proved.
