Veranda House | Blouin Tardif Architecture

A single-family home located in a new forest development, the Veranda house is designed to be intimate and discreet. In addition to guiding the landscape design, the site’s trees serve as a privacy screen. On the street side, openings mark only the entrance and certain services.

On the south side, the house makes the most of the ample private space surrounding the veranda. The heart of the house is a series of spaces that open onto the yard: the kitchen, dining room and double-height living room.

The concept of ground level is fundamental to this house, because the first floor is flush with the ground, creating a strong indoor/outdoor dynamic. Large sliding doors allow the interior and exterior to intermingle, as does a continuous floor covering.  Cedar ceilings give the interior an outdoorsy feel.

The palette of exterior materials is simple and neutral: local clay brick and cedar. Transparency again plays a role in the exterior design, particularly with the glass barrier around the pool.

On the second floor, the master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with transparent partitions and a large covered deck resembling an aerie facing the woods and the water below.

Résidence unifamiliale située dans un nouveau développement boisé, la Maison véranda se veut intimiste et discrète. Les arbres du site, en plus de guider l’aménagement, servent d’écran. Côté rue, les ouvertures marquent uniquement l’entrée et certaines fonctions.

C’est vers le sud que la maison s’ouvre pour mettre en valeur l’espace privé qui se déploie autour de la véranda. Le cœur de la maison est constitué des espaces de vie ouverts sur la cour : cuisine, salle à manger, séjour (double hauteur).

La notion de plain-pied est fondamentale dans l’élaboration de cette demeure car le rez-de-chaussée au niveau du sol créer une dynamique intérieur/extérieur franche. De grands panneaux coulissants accentuent la perméabilité entre l’intérieur et l’extérieur, de même que le parement de sol continu. Les plafonds de cèdre offrent des échos du dehors.

La palette des matériaux extérieurs est simple et neutre : maçonnerie de brique d’argile locale et bois de cèdre. Les jeux de transparence se retrouvent également dans l’aménagement extérieur, notamment dans le garde-corps en verre autour de la piscine.

À l’étage, la chambre principale possède ses propres quartiers avec sa salle de bain tout en transparence et sa grande terrasse, tel un nid d’aigle tourné vers le boisé et le point d’eau en contrebas.
