Panorama House | Blouin Tardif Architecture

At the edge of the forest, between a valley and a grassy marsh, the Panorama house is a refined interpretation of the traditional cottage, complete with pitched metal roof and dark-stained Eastern cedar shingles. Sitting on a typically rolling Laurentian site, the house is based on a simple rectangular volume.

The orange front door leads to the ground floor, where the bedrooms and garage are located. Once inside, the visitor is beckoned upward by a stairway.

The design strategy was to put daytime activities (dining room, kitchen, living room, porch) together on the upper floor in order to make the most of the view and natural lighting. The rooms are carefully thought out as a panoramic series running along the southeast side, ending with the porch. A cathedral ceiling provides the most expansive volume possible on the second floor.

Inside the large common area, two volumes finished in eastern cedar divide the space. The first volume holds a steel fireplace, and the second houses functional spaces: kitchen, pantry, washroom. Orange highlights spark warm memories.

À l’orée du bois, entre vallée et marais d’herbes, la résidence Panorama est une réinterprétation sobre du chalet traditionnel avec son toit à deux versants métalliques et son enveloppe en bardeaux de cèdre de l’Est teint anthracite. Sur un terrain à la topographie accentuée typique des Laurentides, l’implantation est constituée d’un simple volume rectangulaire.

La couleur orange marque l’entrée du rez-de-chaussée où l’on retrouve les chambres et le garage. Mais dès le seuil, un escalier invite le visiteur vers le haut.

La stratégie programmatique était de positionner les fonctions de jour (salle à manger, cuisine, salon et véranda) à l’étage supérieur afin de bénéficier de la vue et de maximiser l’éclairage naturel. Les pièces sont véritablement pensées comme un bandeau panoramique et le geste défile sur toute la longueur de l’élévation sud-est se terminant à la véranda. Un plafond cathédrale a été privilégié afin d’offrir un volume plus généreux à l’étage.

À l’intérieur de ce grand espace commun, deux volumes de bois en cèdre de l’Est morcellent le rythme. Le premier volume structure le foyer en intégrant l’acier et le second contient les espaces techniques : cuisine, garde-manger et W.-C. La couleur orange s’offre en rappel chaleureux par touches successives.
